Completely Keto Sweet and Sour Meatballs

In the cozy kitchen of Ella, a dedicated keto lifestyle enthusiast, the idea of Completely Keto Sweet and Sour Meatballs was born out of a craving for comfort food that fit her dietary choices. Ella, who had transitioned to a ketogenic diet for health reasons, often missed the flavors of her favorite dishes. She had a particular fondness for the sweet and tangy taste of sweet and sour meatballs, a recipe passed down through her family for generations. However, the traditional recipe was laden with sugar and other ingredients that were not keto-friendly.

Determined not to let her dietary restrictions diminish her enjoyment of life’s culinary pleasures, Ella set out to recreate this beloved recipe in a way that aligned with her keto lifestyle. She knew that the challenge lay in substituting the sugar and thickening agents to achieve the same satisfying taste and texture without compromising her diet.

Ella experimented with various keto-approved ingredients, finally arriving at a perfect combination. She replaced traditional sugar with Swerve, a sweetener that offered the sweetness needed without the carbs. For the tangy component, apple cider vinegar provided the perfect zest, and Wheat Free Tamari sauce added depth without the gluten found in regular soy sauce. The ground beef and egg remained true to the recipe’s roots, ensuring the meatballs were juicy and flavorful. To achieve the thick and glossy sauce characteristic of the dish, Ella turned to xanthan gum, a keto-friendly thickening agent.

The first time Ella served her Completely Keto Sweet and Sour Meatballs at a family gathering, the dish was met with disbelief. Her family was amazed that something so delicious could be keto-friendly. The meatballs became an instant favorite, requested at every family event and shared among friends. Ella’s kitchen became a place of innovation, where traditional flavors were lovingly preserved within the boundaries of keto-friendly ingredients.

Ella’s success with the sweet and sour meatballs became a testament to the idea that with a little creativity and perseverance, no one should have to sacrifice flavor for dietary restrictions. Her story inspired others in the keto community to experiment with their cherished recipes, proving that the keto diet could be as diverse and flavorful as any other.

This recipe was a favorite of my mom's. I in turn made it for my kids and my daughter-in-law Michelle asks for this whenever she visits. Enjoy

  • .25 lb ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/8 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/8 cup apple cider vingegar
  • 1/5 Tbsp Wheat Free Tamari sauce
  • 1/6 cup Completely Keto Ketchup
  • 1/4 cup Swerve
  • 1/8 tsp xanthan gum

  1. 1. In a large bowl add minced beef meat, egg, and onion powder. Mix with your hands.

  2. 2. Then use a measuring spoon to shape the meatballs. You should be able to make 15 mini meatballs.

  3. 3. Preheat a pot over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until golden brown. If it's a bit pink in the middle, it's fine now. Put aside

  4. 4. Add water, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, Keto ketchup and erythritol to the same pan. Stir with a whisk until the sauce comes together.

  5. 5. Gradually beat the xanthan gum. You want to move a little and wait a few minutes to make sure it gets thicker. Lower the temperature and cook the sauce.

  6. 6. After a few minutes, check the sauce for consistency.

  7. 7. Add the meatballs and simmer for 10 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through.
